Mary Love - More Love (And Then Some) Original / Jr. & Altroy Remix - All Sold 😞

Mary Love is a much loved soul music legend; the quality of her recording output places her in the same division as the likes of Linda Jones, Betty Everett and Betty Wright, though the commercial success that some of her peers enjoyed was not as bountiful as she so deserved. After releasing six 45s for Modern Records she moved on to record for several small, local labels, Hill, Elco, Magic Disc, and U-Tone. Although none of these later releases resulted in any significant chart success, despite the Hill release being picked up for national distribution by Josie. Whilst Mary was still very active from the early 70’s with live performances and with some time spent in recording studios; other than the two incredible tracks ‘Power Of Your Love’ and ‘When We Start Making Love’ she recorded for Dolemite The Sound Track LP in 1975, there were no further releases from her until 1979 when she had two records released on T.K Records.

It was during this period that she cut the incredible ‘More Love (And Then Some)’. Recorded over several sessions in 1975 and 1983 at Birdclift Studio, Culver City, CA under the direction and guidance of the great George Semper. Mary was ably backed on vocals by her daughter, Robbie Love who was just 12 years old at the time, together with Fontella Bass. The session musicians included David Majal Ii - horns, sax, Fred Wesley - trombone, Kenny Mason - trumpet Geoge Semper - organ and piano, and her husband at the time, Michael Stevenson - guitar
.
The track lay unreleased until U.K record label Hubbub licensed several George Semper productions for release on the compilation ‘Soul Salad’ in 1997. The track was later licensed by U.S record label Luv ‘N’ Haight on their compilation album ‘Inner City Sounds’ in 2003. Despite the track’s inclusion in these compilations it still remains little known, and close to 50 years following the recording it is yet to gain the acclaim that is so deserved.

So, for the first time on a vinyl 45 here is Mary Love with ‘More Love’ in the original George Semper studio cut together with a remix by Jr. and Altroy. It’s time to give this track REAL love.
