This soulfully sublime downtempo magic was produced by the legendary George Semper in 1969, and shamefully the track was discarded until a poor quality mix surfaced to the world in 1997 credited to Annie Pennbrook on a compilation album of George Semper productions. Fast forward to 2022 when the original master tapes were given the love and attention that a track of this quality truly deserved to produce a superior sound, to now be available for the first time on 7" vinyl. Two mixes.....you decide which one hits your heart strings hardest.

Annie Pennbrook was discovered to be one half of the Ron and Candy duet that recorded 'Lovely Weekend' on George Semper's Inner City Records. Ron being Ron Kenoly, who had previously recorded for L.A's Audio Arts and Audio Forty Records. The record was very sadly to be Candy Rae's only release until now.

Candy was born Rachel L. Holden in 1946, Philadelphia, PA, and in her youth was a recognised talent in her church choir. Making her way to Hollywood, Semper discovered her from memorable performances at Wonder Gardens, Club Harlem, and soundtrack backing Jimmy McGriff and Kool & The Gang. ‘Tenderness’ Candy’s first solo was co-written by Marshall McQueen, Jr. He and George met at Capitol Records, during production of ‘Stuck In The Mud’ by Myles Grayson which Marshall wrote and plays guitar. After hearing ‘Tenderness’ George knew it had to be her first recording. Candy collaborated with label mates under the aliases of Annie Mae Pennbrook and Funkhouse with Candy, recording under George's supervision at Wally Heider Studios, Hollywood.
